Transphobia? Only On CBS

transpho2b

First they aired a tranphobic episode of The New Adventures Of Old Christine, then CBS News decided to ditch the accepted guidelines of the AP Stylebook to write this ugly little post, and now this:

CBS was recently criticized for airing an anti-abortion ad during the Super Bowl while refusing to sell ad time to a gay dating site.  CBS’s repeated promotion of ugly stereotypes of transgender people show an obvious disregard for our community. When GLAAD gave the The New Adventures of Old Christine, I criticized them for looking the other way. I hope that they don’t do so this time. It’s time for CBS to stop making jokes on the backs of transgender people.

Much more of an optimist than I 🙂

I just think CBS has shown a pattern of using us for cheap laughs and I'm not a fan.

  • I wonder about this sometimes. Perhaps laughing at us is the first way to get people comfortable with us. Clearly demeaning presentations of trans folks do us no service (ala Jerry Springer), but I think that humorous or awkward introductions of trans people into a plot line can be good. It gets people comfortable with the notion of transgender, and hopefully provides a foundation on which we can share our true experience when someone asks.

    Ever the optimist 😉

  • GLADD does look the other way when they are presented a situation that they know they can not prevail in. I do appreciate what they have done for the transgender community but at what expense? When Glaad gets involved with a transgender issue they push all the grass roots trans bloggers out and present the situation from their viewpoint, very HRC like.
    CBS? Corporate Bull Shi#
