we saw namoli brennet tonight. great show – she just keeps getting better and better. the new cd rocks. stayed up way past my bedtime…

namoli brennet is back, with a new cd and tour. she’ll be in phoenix at mama java’s on july 18th. yeah, i’ll be there. and yeah, i’ll be buying her new cd.

namoli brennet will be playing at the rebel yell youth activist music & art festival this sunday april 5th, in downtown phoenix. see the link for specifics. i don’t know what time she’ll be playing, and i’ll be working overtime this sunday, so i don’t know if i’ll get to see her.

namoli brennet is performing at the second year anniversary celebration at the OneVoice LGBT Community Center on november 16th at 8:00 PM. they’re located at 4314 n 7th ave in phoenix.
i’m mostly blogging this just so i remind myself to go. when she was here about 6 months ago, i blogged about it about a month in advance, and the post had slipped off my front page by the time the date arrived. and it totally slipped my mind. yeah, i’m old.
update:
well, it’s a good thing no one reads my blog. i was there. namoli was not. ouch.

you read that right. the goddess of indie, acoustic, and folk music, 4-time outmusic award nominee singer and songwriter, 40+city tour spanning over 10,000 miles talented multi-instrumentalist jukebox heroine, and my personal most favorite soundsmith and story teller, namoli brennet will be playing at mama java’s coffeehouse on saturday, july 12th at 8:00 PM.
be there, or be not. there is no try. or spoon. or something.
looks like my favorite singer/songwriter, namoli brennet, got a great review in the december issue of red magazine. click the image for a scan of the article, or the link to download the issue with the review.

i had the pleasure of seeing namoli brennet at mama java’s coffee house tonight for her “cd release party”. as usual, her show was a mixture of great music, humor, and as a special treat, a few guest performers including julie nicolay and her trumpet. she did several songs from her new cd, singer shine your light, and a few old favorites.
despite the mishap with a broken string (apparently, she uses guitar strings only rated for 2000 miles, having last changed them in ohio), she entertained us with stories of her travels on the road during her recent national tour, including smelly cows, california earthquakes, and rainbow groups that seem to have missed the association between gays and rainbows.
i bought her new cd at the performance, and she was gracious enough to sign it for me. she even remembered my name
i must admit however, i was very impatient to hear her new music, so i bought a few of the new tracks from iTunes a few weeks ago. well worth it though – her music is amazing.
so namoli performed at mama java’s coffee house this past friday. i missed it as i was working that night. fortunately, namoli has this eventful thingie that everyone who visits here to my little blog can click on and demand that she come back here soon.
now marti will scold me for saying this i’m sure, but i had to hack the original “eventful” code to make it show up here. neither the java or flash code worked, so i just took a screen print of the flash graphic and linked it to the appropriate url. stupid wordpress code. and i thought i hated blogger…
my collection is complete. i just received namoli brennet’s first cd in the mail, boy in a dress. i got it in the mail, because it’s out of print. and, i might add, pretty darn expensive because of that. i would have much prefered to give her the money, but it’s just not available. and please, don’t ask me how much it was.
interestingly enough, this is probably my least favorite cd of hers. however, you can really hear where her roots are, and how she developed her style and talent over the years. and listening to her cd’s, one after the other, in chronological order, is a wonderful example of how a musical artist develops over the years.
and, well, when it comes right down to it, i was once, very much, a boy in a dress.
