very much enjoying this cd.

i enjoy shopping at bookmans. the prices and selections are great, and it’s a small contribution i can make for recycling. recently, they started carrying musical instruments, and it’s been tempting. today, i picked up a used peavey audition plus guitar amp. that brings back some memories for me. now if i can only remember how to play…

i am a long time yes fan, so i was extremely pleased to learn that a new album was released this past july, close to 10 years since their last studio album. i’m listening to it right now, and i really like it. a new singer, benoĆ®t david, and keyboard player, geoff downes, enhance, rather than diminish the line up. i actually went out and purchased the cd, rather than buying it on iTunes.
if you enjoyed yes in the past, i highly recommend this album.

after a discussion on facebook about favorite beatles songs – as if that’s even possible – i was compelled to go to iTunes and make a few much needed purchases. hey jude, let it be, and the long and winding road. how is it that i’ve been able to survive this long without owning copies of these great tunes?

incredibly, each cd just gets better. how does she do it? for this cd, i had to order it online from her site. i missed her last visit to phoenix

i’ve been listening to traffic’s rendition of john barleycorn and have only now come to understand that john barleycorn is just a personification of the process that barley goes through from planting, to harvesting, to brewing, to replanting, in making beer. probably because i have never paid too much attention to actual lyrics, other than the way they sound, as another music element to a musical piece. go figure.
in my travels, i found the above pictured version of the song, which sounds as if it comes right out of the renaissance faire. love the album artwork as well.
it was nice to be able to find it on itunes. what was not nice, is that the low spark of high heeled boys is only available if you purchase the entire album.

i picked up a copy of with the beatles from bookmans yesterday for $8.00 used. actually, meet the beatles was the first beatles album that my older sister and i purchased way back in the 60′s. i couldn’t have been more than 7 or 8 years old. for my next birthday, i got the beatles 2nd album as a gift.
interestingly enough, “with the beatles” is kind of a mixture of the two, but really brings me back across space and time. every note of these songs is permanently etched in my mind. indeed, one of my first memories is sitting on my daddy’s lap watching the beatles’ first american tv performance on the ed sullivan show.
for what it’s worth, i believe the beatles were the best musical group ever. best rock band. best pop band. best songwriters. best singers (well, paul mccartney, anyway). though back in the day, john was my favorite, probably because he was a bit more gritty than paul.
oddly enough, the official beatles web site only lists “with the beatles” on their albums page.
i have a pretty good collection of beatles cd’s, and this one makes a great addition.
