new amp

i enjoy shopping at bookmans. the prices and selections are great, and it’s a small contribution i can make for recycling. recently, they started carrying musical instruments, and it’s been tempting. today, i picked up a used peavey audition plus guitar amp. that brings back some memories for me. now if i can only remember how to play…

tactical gear

we stopped by the wilderness the other day to pick up an instructor belt. their belts are considered by many to be the best tactical belts around, and the factory is literally right around the corner from me. the staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and made sure the belt i purchased had the features and fit that suited my needs. in fact, they didn’t have my size in the model i wanted – original with 5 stitch – so they made one up in the factory while i waited. coincidentally, it just happened to be on sale too.

one reason i needed a new belt was the new high noon holster i got for my s&w m&p9c a while back. i ended up going with the skin tite model as it fits my needs for a holster that sits high and close to my body. it’s still a little tight, but it should loosen up with time.

choose one

every year, management sends out an employee satisfaction survey. toward the end, i was offered this question. it angered me, so i left it blank. why do they want to know? why do i have to choose?

guns & coffee

i don’t normally post about the politics of firearms – after all, i believe the 2nd amendment protects the right of american citizens to keep and bear arms. but i just had to post about this, because i can’t count the number of times i’ve gone into my local starbucks armed. interestingly enough, the first firearm i saw open-carried here in phoenix was at my local starbucks.

i have faith that starbucks won’t cave, because i’d be hard-pressed to decide between the two.

thanks to snowflakes in hell for the heads up.

and really, is that a cool starbucks logo, or what! i want to make them into arm patches :P only i’d change the question mark to something more appropriate.

mail theft

i found this image of a texas mailbox on boing boing. the reason i was looking for mailbox images, is that our mailbox was broken into a few days ago. someone stole an envelope that had some of those access checks that the credit card companies send you in an effort to entice you to use the account for balance transfers, purchases, or anywhere you’d use a regular check. for a fee of course.

fortunately, our credit card company saw it as fraud, called us, and put a stop to it. i called our other credit card companies and turned off the access check mailings on all of our other accounts. i’d advise that anyone who has a credit card do the same. i’m inclined to use this as an excuse to turn off the statement mailings as well. but i sure like them as a reminder that the bill is coming due.

update:
i got an email from my credit card company this morning. apparently the asshole who stole my hubby’s access checks also stole mine and tried to use them. for what it’s worth, i put a fraud alert on my credit bureau, and i’ve found that it’s a lot easier to do that with equifax than it is to do with transunion…

snow leopard

i just installed the latest version of the mac os x operating system. as usual, it went smoothly. as usual, i don’t like some of the changes. it appears the automator is removed from the right-click menu. i learned this when i tried to resize the above graphic as i usually did by simply right-clicking on the item, and selecting the automator, in which i had programmed a resize graphic command. perhaps they put it in a more convenient location?

other than that, things seem pretty much the same. i’ll update additional complaints as they become known :)

overtime

sorry about the lack of timely updates. i’ve been putting in some overtime over the last few weeks, and it looks like i’ll be doing so for a while. i even worked today, on easter. in any event, my bills will thank me…
