via joe.my.god, i’ve learned that the traditional values coalition is using the “men in dresses” meme to scare people into telling their congressmen to vote against enda. tallulha, in the comments, hits the nail on the head:
I’d rather have Rupaul in full drag teaching my kids than someone trying to tell them that the earth is 6,000 years old.
yeah, or that we spontaneously sprung up out from the dust, or were living along side the dinosaurs. i’m calling them out on nexy’s law on this one.

I love the Nexy’s Law. I’m so tired of this whole scare tactic. As a teacher my transition on the job has been a pretty big nonevent. The parents of my students love me, my kids adore me and the staff is quite happy to have me there. The parents aren’t stupid, they know my story, but they also know that I’m a great teacher and they not only trust me with their children they insist that their children be in my class. Of course I wouldn’t be caught in a dress, just jeans and a tee for me thank you very much.

My two cents is that ENDA will fail not because of frightened parents or bathroom issues, but for other, political reasons. If it does pass, employers will be far more cautious when interviewing prospective hires, and will be more “crafty” when seeking to terminate.

Lisalee, we have an ENDA style local ordinance here in Louisville and it’s been around for over a decade. It works and works well. No reason to believe it would be any less successful at the federal level. As for the bathroom issue, to my knowledge, it too has been a non issue around here.

yeah, it’s been a long time since i’ve worn a dress as well, could be that my wedding was the last time. i also mostly wear jeans and tees. but i guess they want to make it dramatic – saying “men in jeans” just doesn’t pack the same punch
