sig p6

i picked up a used sig p6 last night. i’ve been looking for a single stack 9mm for carry, and this was the best compromise between size, capacity, Lose Weight Exercise, and price. after a quick cleaning, i took it to the range today, and this was the first shot.

i was very impressed. it fits my hand perfectly, is not too light with its aluminum frame to interfere with accuracy, and is quite comfortable to shoot. here’s my best group.

clearly, the gun is more accurate than i am, and i can definitely see why this gun was chosen by the switzerland and west german police as their primary side arm. a large number was imported last year as those police forces modernized their side arms. my only regret is not jumping on the bandwagon earlier – the prices have gone up from ~$250 since then. i felt lucky to have only spent $350 on this one. i saw one at the gun show last weekend for $450.

the only thing left to do is pick up a few extra magazines, and a holster.

  1. Nice. Would this make a good training gun? I’ve never handled one and my concern is the size of the grip. I have smallish hands and have problems with larger grips.

  2. i think so, but one should try a variety of guns before purchasing one, especially if they are new shooter. lots of ranges offer rentals, like the one i belong to. that way, you can get a feel for how it fits your hand, how well you can handle the recoil, etc before you buy.

  3. Nexy!
I had no idea you are so skilled with guns.

Your accuracy is fantastic. I’ve been thinking of asking my father-in-law to teach me to shoot. He’s won every award imaginable.

    Have a great new year!

  4. thanks jay! i’m actually not that skilled, i get lucky now and again. i do find it enjoyable to spend time at the range though. some find it surprising how relaxing punching holes in paper can be :)

  5. Hi Nexy. I see you bought a family heirloom!!! It will last you that long with a little tlc!! Nice looking and robust for the little 9mm. I prefer revolvers and larger calibers, but each to their own!!!! Have a happy holiday!!!
