holiday cleaning

i took down my pink walther p22 to the next level when i cleaned it after my trip to the range on tuesday. removing the assembly from the frame allowed for a more detailed cleaning. i can’t believe how much gunk accumulated after only about 1000 rounds.

additionally, i tried my new ammo, the federal game-shok fmj .22 stuff i got on national ammo day. it worked well, except for a couple of failures to cycle in the walther. it might be a less expensive alternative than the cci minimag stuff i’ve been using.

  1. I saw my first pink Walther today at one of the local sporting goods shops. I wasn’t looking for anything new in handguns…just making the hubby happy by letting him browse around. And then WHAM!!!! There it was. OMG…I have to have it. I showed it to him and said…”get me that little gem and I’ll give you back your .25″ (one I like to carry in my purse because it’s so small). Chances are he didn’t get the hint for Christmas but I can hope :)

  2. i know exactly how you feel. i will say that you have more will power than me. the day i first saw this gun in person, i had to have it, and purchased it right there and then. i took some talking to from my hubby, but it was worth it :)

  3. LOL… I just read him your comments on the gun and how much you like it so he checked the price in his shooters bible and then said, “you know it’s a .22 and it’s no bigger than your .380″…well duh, yeah, hence P22 and I don’t care…it’s pink…and I’ll make a concession to carrying a little bigger yet lighter gun in my purse. Besides, it will be easier to find when I’m rummaging around looking for it :) :) (big cheesy grin). I’ll keep you posted as to IF Santa brings me my pink-pistola.

  4. this is the first polymer frame gun i’ve owned – my others are all either stainless steel or that s&w airweight alloy. i was amazed at how light it is. i’ll be honest – i don’t know how comfortable i’d be using it for self protection. i carry my s&w .38 revolver for that. the walther is very picky when it comes to ammo – mine will only shoot cci minimag reliably. all the other ammo i’ve tried – and you can do a search on my site (just click on the “pink pistols” categories link) to see how many types i’ve tried, results in failures to cycle pretty often. like at least one in 20 or 30 rounds, sometimes a lot more. it works fine with the minmag stuff though. i guess that puts enough doubt in my mind to feel comfortable using it for protection. additionally, i don’t think a .22 is up for the task. of course, a .22lr is more powerful than a .25.

that said, since i bought it just for fun, it fulfills that function perfectly. it’s a lot of fun, and i get a lot of positive comments from my friends at the range. it’s pretty accurate, and comes apart easily. unlike all my other firearms, no tools are needed for field stripping. i had a little trouble the first time i put it back together, but once i figured it out (the instructions were not very clear), i find it easy now. i’d like to eventually get the laser sight – my friend has one and it definitely improves accuracy. i wouldn’t mind getting the longer barrel for it either, at some point.

overall, i’m very happy with my purchase. it works perfectly for my needs.

  5. If you use copper plated ammo it will get a lot less dirty and will perform better.
