ammo wars

we went to the range yesterday and i brought along the final three ammo contenders for my three 22 LR firearms. winchester super x power point, american eagle ae22, and cci mini mag. the winchester super x works well, though i did experience two misfires in my marlin 995 rifle. it performed flawlessly in my s&w 2206 and my walther p22. it burns clean, leaving minimal residue on the weapons, and is accurate. unfortunately, it’s about $9.95 for 100 rounds normally. the past few weeks it’s been on sale at cabela’s, so i figured i’d give it a try.

the american eagle ae22 works great in my s&w 2206, but performs poorly in my marlin 995 rifle and walther p22, resulting in numerous misfires and failures to cycle. the price is the best of the three, at about $17.99 for 400 rounds, so i may continue to stock it for my s&w 2206, in which it works flawlessly. it burns cleans, and is accurate, but i just can’t use it in my other two firearms. i might as well be buying the value packs.

the clear winner is the cci mini mag ammo. it performs flawlessly in all three firearms, burns clean, and is accurate. at $6.99 for 100 rounds it’s a bit pricey, but it works in all my 22LR firearms, and i can’t argue with that.
