apologies

david moore, co-owner of crew’s inn in dallas, issued an apology in the dallas voice.

“We at the Crews Inn do not discriminate. We appreciate all of our customers. If anyone has felt offended or discriminated against, we certainly did not intend to do so.

“We believe that all customers should have a good experience at the Crews Inn, and we take our responsibility to ensure that seriously.”

apparently, the women banned accept his apology. personally, when the apology includes language like “If anyone has felt offended or discriminated against, we certainly did not intend to do so.”, that puts a damper on the sincerity. you know, i’m sorry i banned your ass, i didn’t mean to offend you. wtf?

in other news, hospital technician daniel i. alawoya rapes a transgender “male” patient and gets time served and three years probation. (though the article refers to the victim as a “transgender male patient”, i’m inclined to believe she’s a trans woman, despite the pronouns.) i find it interesting that:

“If you scream, I’ll kill you,” the victim said Alawoya told him while choking him. The sexual activity lasted between 15 and 40 minutes.

translates to “committing a lewd act”. of course i’m just a mere trans woman, but to me, that sounds like rape. thank god for plea bargaining.

and finally, if a school is set up to create an environment that’s safe for lgbt people, it’s considered to be all about sex. never mind that the kids can’t attend school without getting their heads bashed in on a daily basis. just “get out of the bedroom” and the head bashing is ok. another wtf moment.

and special thanks to marti for fixing my template and restoring my blog roll and categories!

  1. I have mixed feelings about the school in Chicago. On the one hand, I can see where it would be nice for LGBT kids to have a school that is safe but as a teacher, I like to see schools open to all. That being said, a big part of the problem is the Chicago Public School System. It’s a mess in every sense of the term and I wouldn’t work there for all the money in the world. As much as I love Chicago, it’s by far my favorite city in America, they’ve failed with regards to the schools. I’m not sure what the solution is but if Dailey is agianst it, well, he’s been nothing short of an amazing mayor and has helped make Chicago one of the most liberal places in the world.

  2. the one issue i see with a “special” school for lgbt people, is that it may further marginalize and isolate them. i lived in chicago for a year – the school system didn’t know what to do with my son. he tested way above average in i.q., and that freaked them out for some reason. chicago was nice, but way too cold in the winter.

  3. I don’t mind the cold, in fact, I tend to love it. I just love the vibe that Chicago has.

  4. *shudders*

There is an ongoing attempt at getting me to move to TN (Nashville, lol), and its cold that is keeping me from taking it (though why I said yes to a Christmas trip is beyond me).

Cold and I are archenemies. If I want it, its a day trip to Sedona, lol. Snow is evil. *nods sagely, rubs the cactus spine still in her leg after 35 years*

On the school, I said my piece over n Topix, but in general, so long as they work hard to do what they said (which was to make it open to anyone), then let it fly.

You put that many LGBT kids in one spot, there’s no way that school is gonna be fringe.

Its gonna be the one the others try to catch up to.

  5. actually, nashville was my second choice in my favorite places to move to, if phoenix didn’t work out. it seemed that nashville was always at least 10 degrees warmer than new jersey at any particular time. of course phoenix is like 20 or 30 degrees warmer :)
