christine, you should check some of your local gun shops and/or firing ranges. many in my area feature "ladies night", during which range time and instruction are free for women. in my area, a place called shooter's world has ladies night every friday, and even gun rentals are included free. the only thing you have to pay for is ammo and targets. the only problem is that one has to wait, since the lines are so long on some fridays.

unfortunately, concealed carry is not legal in all states. and to be honest, most of the time i'm not carrying. i'm not able to bring a gun to my workplace (i work for a bank), so i can't even leave it in my car. and other places of business don't allow it.

the main reason i got the permit was so that when i am carrying, i don't have to be so concerned that the way i am carrying my pistol adheres to the law for open carry. the laws states that the gun or holster must be at least partially visible, which is subject to interpretation by law enforcement.

i'll add that one of the factors in my decision in moving here to arizona, was the gun laws here. unlike some people, i feel a lot safer knowing that 86,939 people (in 2007) in arizona have a ccw permit, and may use their weapon to stop a crime. and that's not counting the number of people who regularly carry unconcealed. i believe criminals are less likely to commit crimes armed when their intended victim can effectively fight back.

and thanks toni :)

I wish we had concealed carry here...actually, I wish I knew how to use a gun. Clearly, I need to make time for that...

Congrats, though! You look SO happy.
