imagine

i just downloaded the music video imagine, by john lennon from itunes. apparently, all or some of his work may be available on a limited time basis only. while i prefered the music he did with the beatles, his solo work was also quite influential and popular.

it’s hard to imagine that he’s been gone for 27 years. even though he was not my favorite beatle, i wept when i heard the news that he’d been shot, and again when he passed. he, along with the other fab 3, was a huge part of my childhood and adolescence. and his work continues to influence and inspire generations of song writers and activists.

these days when i hear that song, i sing to myself “imagine there’s no gender”…

  1. I was about 6 when he was killed, and I remember it the way older people remember where they were when Kennedy was killed. The Beatles were BIG on my dad’s side of the family. My aunt has Paul’s grass in her top drawer from his front freakin lawn…

  2. Oh I so love John Lennon. He was quite the visionary for peace back then and I still admire his radical stance on everything.

  3. sheesh, i was 24 in 1980. the beatles broke up in 1969 i think, but he had just started writing again, and had a few new solo albums. i felt a strong sense of loss when he died. such a waste.

i hear paul travels to arizona every now again - i think he owns property around here somewhere. maybe i’ll see him at some point. stevie nicks lives around here i’m told - another hero of mine. we went to alice cooper’s bar and grille not too long ago - he lives in the area too. pheonix - we’re told it’s a bird who rose from the ashes. perhaps instead, it’s where old people come to die. how depressing. or maybe i’m thinking of miami.
