Sometimes life throws odd coincidences at one.

Pam’s House Blend has profiled James Hartline in articles numerous times, he’s announced that he’s running for the 3rd District San Diego City Council seat this elections cycle — and I live in the San Diego City Council’s 3rd District. Mr. Hartline has reported previously that his San Diego neighborhood is Hillcrest, which is a little southwest of my neighborhood of Normal Heights, but both neighborhoods are in the 3rd City Council District.

So let’s read some of the collected thoughts from the blog of the man who wants to be my councilman (misspellings marked afterwards with a “[sic]“):

If anyone has had any doubts as to how far the extremist elements of the radical homosexual movement are willing to go to destroy the traditional institution of family, than be prepared to be shocked at the degrading film production of “Breakfast With Scot.”

In one of the most obscene betrayals of children in motion picture history, Miracle Pictures Inc. is now filming the gay-themed tale of two male homosexual lovers who take custody of an eleven year-old boy. The young boy is portrayed as a “budding” drag queen. While Breakfast With Scot is seeking to pervert society’s standardized views on family, the film does more to reveal how intent the radicalized homosexual movement is in creating an epidemic of gender confusion to justify the institutionalization of its beliefs on transsexualism and transvestitism.

…Instead of sticking to the sport of hockey and making billions of dollars for its teams and players, the National Hockey League has now decided to join forces with the radicalized homosexual movement in their declared war on traditional family values and children. By issuing a licence [sic] to the producers of Breakfast With Scot to use the league logo in the movie, the NHL has said that it wants family dollars without family values.

Another:

Without question, one of the largest American corporate promoters of the anti-family, radicalized homosexual agenda, continues to be coffee giant Starbucks. While children were forced to watch degrading images of male prostitutes, pornographers and other deviant participants in this year’s 2006 San Diego Gay Pride Parade, Starbucks was sponsoring this hellish event to make sure that it was well-funded.

San Diego Christians Outraged At GOP Disrespect For Their Faith During Christianity’s Most Important Event

…The idea that leaders of the San Diego Republican Party would invite a member of a cult to be their guest of honor at the local GOP’s annual Christmas Party is not sitting well with Christian voters. In fact, many voters are dumbfounded that San Diego’s GOP leaders would pick Mitt Romney, an avowed member of the Mormon Church, as their guest of honor during an event that is supposed to be celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Among many serious problems with the Romney invitation is the fact that Romney’s Mormon religion teaches that Jesus and Lucifer (aka Satan) are brothers.

Romney’s bizarre religious beliefs truly disgrace the birth of Christ.

And lastly:

I have had to go to Gethsemane many, many times to wrestle with God and my flesh in dealing with AIDS. Each time, the wrestling has brought me closer to Him. Most bound in homosexuality will die in their sins rather than repent and surrender to Christ. The mind, once given to that reprobate state, will rarely find its way out of that pit of delusion and eternal damnation. I am most fortunate. For, in my wrestling over this disease of AIDS, I have surrender my flesh and all homosexual desires to God. In the process of seeking healing from AIDS, I have been completely delivered from homosexuality. Gethsemane has served me well in the eyes of God.

…Living inside of Hillcrest, the homosexual stronghold of San Diego, California, it seems as if I have been swallowed up at times, into a great caldron of hostility and bigotry because of my faith. What have I done wrong? What have I said that has germinated such anger towards me. Simply, standing for Christ and proclaiming the Word of God, has brought me into a war that I did not invent. Nevertheless, by surrendering to the will of God, I have enlisted in such a battle. It is a war over philosophies. It is a war over ideas. And most assuredly, it is a war with titanic spiritual dynamics: it is the war of ages between God and the rebels under satan’s spell. Everyone who chooses to pick up the cross of Jesus Christ will enter into this conflict. To wave a white flag in surrender to satan, is to drop the cross and deny Christ.

There is a permeating emnity [sic] between those bound in the snare of homosexuality and those that speak the truth of the Bible. Once I renounced my former life and its sinful attire, I too, became the focus of a major campaign of hate and intolerance by San Diego’s homosexual advocates. On a daily basis, I am ridiculed and mocked by those that claim that I am hateful and demented because of what they term “religious zealotry.” They claim that opposition to the sin of homosexuality is intolerant zealotry. I say, in stark opposition to them, that those who will actually die in their quest for sexual fulfillment, are the ones who are demented zealots.

Whatever one may think of the Social-Conservative-Christian politics of James Hartline, one certainly has to be concerned by the over-the-top way he presents his viewpoints. Representing a city council district in a city like San Diego has far less to do with legislating morals than managing the city’s budget. Mr. Hartline doesn’t seem to have the temperament to work with others to pass a budget — for goodness sakes he found Lou Sheldon’s person and views unacceptable in 2006.

Even if one found his views and politics acceptable, one almost certainly would find his lack of tact and inability to compromise troublesome for someone who wants to be a city councilman. I know I find his “attack with both barrels anyone who disagrees with me” attitude more troubling than his views — and that’s saying an awful lot considering his views are pretty much way out in “right field.”

Add conservative Christian activist James Hartline to the list of potential candidates for the District 3 City Council seat in 2008.

Hartline publishes an online newsletter railing against prostitution, homosexuality and drug use in the city’s uptown neighborhoods. You can read an extensive profile San Diego CityBeat published in 2005. Hartline is a Republican.

Omigawd — It’s confirmed, in a press release in Mr. Hartline’s own blog, that he’s running .

Seriously, read a few entries in Mr. Hartline’s blog, and make you’re own decision whether or not this man has the temperment to be on any city council. 

That’s even not taking into consideration his extreme social-conservative politics, which are just way out in right field.

I read ex-gay James Hartline’s blog about once a week. Sometimes it’s entertaining (such as his glaring grammar mistake of using “their” instead of using “they’re” in the quote in my headline above), sometimes he has a valid point to make, but more often than not he seems to write unhinged diatribes.

I’ve seen him speak at San Diego City Council meetings. His viewpoints are just about uniformly opposite to mine, but he doesn’t sound unhinged when he speaks. And, he’s had some successes in shutting down LGBT events — like 2005′s Ebony Pride event — and he’s the one who did the digging to find out that there were registered sex offenders in places of leadership in the 2005 San Diego Pride organization. The San Diego Pride organization was completely reorganized as a result. And, volunteers are now all subject to background checks, which wasn’t the case previously.

That all said, he really has a propensity for excess — he sometimes dives brain last into loony sounding diatribes on the most mundane of events. The San Diego Gay Pride organization has earned a notorious reputation for exposing young minors to extremely graphic sexual elements of the homosexual movement. Parents bringing their children to the July 8th game are sure to be outraged when they learn that the park will be used to promote homosexuality instead of traditional family values…

…While professional baseball players are oftentimes seen as role models for young boys, parents will find no comfort in their sons being exposed to the immorality associated with the Gay Men’s Chorus of San Diego (www.gmcsd.com). Included in the group’s current schedule of perfomances (sic) is “Diva by Diva” where the men will be singing tributes to Madonna, Bette Midler, and lesbian K. D. Lang. One of the sponsors of this particular chorus is IN Los Angeles Magazine, a homosexual periodical that features a multitude of pornographic ads for male prostitutes and xxx gay pornography. In 2003, the Joan Kroc Salvation Army Center refused to allow the Gay Men’s Chorus of San Diego to perform at its facility when it was learned that some of the men might perform while dressing up as women.

One outspoken conservative Republican has told the James Hartline Report that he thinks the Padres involvement with the San Diego Gay Pride “is a degrading episode for families with kids.” He intends to make sure that San Diego families know about the event so that they can keep their kids away from the ballpark on July 8th.

Essentially, Mr. Hartline and company’s message to LGBT folk is stay in the closet and have no public life. Don’t even go to sports events, or have a gay men’s performance group perform anywhere near children.

I’m not a big baseball fan, but I’m going to think about getting tickets for the July 8th date — just to show support for LGBT people having public lives.

My “favorite” ex-gay writer has posted a duesy on his blog, The James Hartline Report. Mr. Hartline’s latest peice is ACTION ALERT — Cowards, Not Cowboys! Lakeside, California Allowing Gay Rodeo To Expose Children To Homosexuality.

Lakeside is in San Diego County. And, like me, Mr. Hartline lives in San Diego — a city Mr. Hartline has referred to as Sodom.

Here’s what Mr. Hartline has to say about the upcoming rodeo:

With sponsors that include an explicit adult gay sex chatline (Interactive Male) and a company that produces lubricants used in anal intercourse, the San Diego chapter of the Golden State Gay Rodeo Association will be bringing its annual homosexual rodeo to the family-friendly Lakeside, California Rodeo Grounds from June 1 – 3, 2007 (www.sandiegorodeo.com/rodeo.htm). Last year, the San Diego Gay Rodeo triggered outrage in the conservative community of Lakeside when the group was allowed to bring drag queens, sexually explicit advertisers and a message of spreading homosexuality to the grounds of this Lakeside children’s charity rodeo venue (www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20060428/news_7m28rodeo.html). With all of the turmoil created by last year’s twisted rodeo, there seems to be an even bigger problem this year: complete silence among Lakeside’s church leaders, elected officials and family groups regarding the presence of the gay rodeo in their community. What is the message that community leaders are sending to the children of Lakeside, California by remaining silent about the presence of a rodeo that features men dressed up as women while competing in the event? What are the consequences for little girls who come to the rodeo with their parents and are confronted with images of lesbians acting and dressing like men? How do parents explain to their young sons about the advertisments for a gay sex chatline that is sponsoring the rodeo? Trash cans at the gay rodeo event openly feature advertisements for sexual lubricants (Wet) (http://homorodeo.com/gallery/2006/sandiego/Devilcub/shtml/image001.shtml). How do youth pastors explain that message to their kids?

Sponsors for the San Diego Gay Rodeo include “Wet” a company that manufactures lubricants used in anal intercourse. Lakeside, California is home to some of the biggest churches in San Diego County. Dozens of unsuspecting parents with children may be lured onto the rodeo grounds, perhaps right after attending church services. Yet, the message that these churches are sending to their youth by saying nothing about the gay rodeo can best be summed up with one sermon title: “Brokeback Spirituality!”

Of course, if one is afraid of having one’s children exposed to gay individuals at a rodeo, I suppose one could just stay home and watch The Chronicles Of Narnia on DVD with the kids, er. . .a. . .right?

Well, at least the over-the-top, alarmist stylings of James Hartline can’t be beat for their entertainment value. I knjow I enjoy reading his blog — I’d add it to my blogroll, but folk might think I’m supporting his viewpoints vice just little ol’ me being thoroughly entertained by his posts.
