“Don Luis And Perla”

July 16th, 2007 by Stephanie Stevens

I wrote earlier about this Banco Provincia television commercial from Argentina.

Here’s a bit more about the commercial from SentidoG. Again, many thanks to Curtis of OII for passing along the article and for his translation from the Spanish …

Banco Provincia includes transsexual in its commercial

El Cielo Buenos Aires has come out with a new publicity campaign for
the Provinica Bank (which includes two different commercials, “The
Factory”, and “Don Luis and Perla”.

Created by Ramiro Agulla (editors) and Carlos Baccetti (artistic
director), and Esteban Sapir, director from LadobleA, the commercials
intend to send the message that when a public bank such as Provinica
Bank finally dares to make serious changes by restructuring and
cleaning house and providing better products, services and plans which
are more accessible, it is also having a decisive impact on the
mindset, values and lives of people.

In the video, “Don Luis and Perla” there is an older man, Don Luis,
who approaches Perla (a transsexual woman) to ask her forgiveness for
having mistreated her all this time. It is as if the apology of this
one man is equivalent to an apology of society as a whole towards
those who have been victims because of their gender. It is impossible
not to be moved by the values that this video is promoting.

We can only hope that life will someday make this video a reality and
that this presentation will have more of an effect than just selling
the actual interests of the publicity campaign.
